I suppose I could have just not written a blog post today. I'm leaving at noon, after all. Or I left at noon, I should say, with when you would be reading this in mind.
I already had to spend time on non-work for maybe twenty minutes as soon as I arrived this morning. The cutting of the desks for Merchandising was scheduled for this morning, and my desk and Brandy's desk (behind me) were already done. This was slightly unexpected, as Tracy had put a Post-It indicating my desk as one to be cut, with the #4 on it, indicating it was to get cut fourth. Tracy even came by my desk, explained he thought he remembered my desk was #1, then saw it's actually #4. "But you're #1 in my heart!"
And then, it's entirely possible I was #1 after all. If I wasn't then I was #2. Poop! Anyway, neither Frank's nor Noah's desks had been cut, and they had been Post-It noted with #1 and #2. I have no idea what the approach was on the part of the Store Dev team with this. But, when I got to work, the sit-stand portion of my desk was a foot shorter, and the monitors were taken off their stands, laying face down on the side desk that currently makes the L-shape, the portion of desks that won't be transferred to the new office when we move in late August.
So this was what I spent the first twenty minutes or so of my day doing: re-hanging the monitors on their stands, and then figuring out, largely through trial and error, what plugs go where, both into the two monitors and in the docking station. Eventually I got it, though, and had the setup I am used to.
Well, except, of course, that a foot of length on my desk is gone. The width of these desks is two feet, so that was two square feet removed. I figured, well, I might as well start getting used to this: I moved what very little I had left on the side desk surface and placed it all on the smaller sit-stand portion, which at the new office is going to be all the desk surface space I get. It feels pretty cramped, honestly, but I'll get used to it. I
took a photo for reference.
My understanding is all the desks at the new office will still have the roller-drawer units underneath, which can be seen in that photo at lower right. With the expectation that I will get my own permanent desk at the new location, that will provide me some more permanent storage space, presumably. I figure that, over time, I will systematically start bringing back a lot of the massive amount of shit I took home from my desk last weekend. It was a full box and four different tote bags full of stuff. Probably in the end a lot of it won't go anywhere, except in the garbage. I've spent the last week without all the stuff I took home and haven't missed it, except for the personalized stuff like things I had hanging on my (low) cubicle wall.

Anyway. Not much else to report on. I deliberately chose not to go to a movie last night, not just because there were no good options anyway, but because I wanted to keep the evening free for packing what I could before bed. I did more while getting ready for work this morning, which I made easier on myself by getting out of bed at 5:00 instead of the usual 5:15. At this point, I only need to go home, pack the refrigerated stuff I'm bringing—last night I also already chopped the vegetables I plan to use for making a pasta dinner—and go, basically.
I think first, though, I'll take the front wheel off my bike and put it in the car, through the trunk. I wasn't going to bother bringing it, but Garret texted the group chat this morning and asked if I was planning to, and said he'd be up for a ride if I am. Twist my arm! I only was leaning on not bringing it because, if I remember right, I brought it to Lopez Island last year and then never rode it. This could easily happen again this weekend, but maybe not. Either way it doesn't really put me out to bring it just in case I can put it to use.
I did accompany Shobhit down to his pea patch plot for a few minutes last night, where he grabbed some vegetables for his own dinner. He told me I could just eat the last of the pasta he had made for Action Movie Night. Lots of pasta for me this week. I'm not complaining! I love pasta.
We watched the season finale of
Hacks, which was predictably great. We had nothing else to watch, though, so Shobhit went back to his political talk shows. I went to the bedroom and watched the latest episode of
Conan O'Brien Must Go, the episode in Switzerland, and it was fucking hilarious. Especially when he
dressed up as Sigmund Freud. I had tears in my eyes, I was laughing so hard.
Anyway I guess I'll post this so I can get the hell out of here.
