Let's see if I can remember all the people who were at Action Movie Night last night. I believe I counted eleven: Tony, Jake, Ben, Joe, Chris G, Derek, Andrew, Daniel, Greg, Shobhit, and me.

Yep. That makes eleven!

Joe doesn't come to Action Movie Night very often, even though as far as I know, he's still one of the very few people in the group who actually lives at the Braeburn (the others being Tony, Shobhit and me). This week was his pick, though, which I think was a big encouragement for him to attend. It's Greg's choice next time, and he doesn't come every time either—I'm after him. It occurred to me that if both of them did not show then it would be my choice again already. But, they both showed; I should expect Greg probably to be here next time too, but we'll see.

Joe has a great history of choices on the movie list. I saw on there that he had his first choice as far back as 2016! I had no idea he had been coming for so long. Some of his choice movies have included This Is the End, Baby Driver, Get Out, Jurassic Park, Inception, Knives Out—this guy has taste!

And he had an excellent choice this week: Parasite. I kind of felt like I was going crazy, because I felt certain that film had been seen at Action Movie Night already—not that I had watched it at Action Movie Night, but that I had seen it on the movie list. "Hasn't this one already been done?" I asked. Even Tony agreed: "I think it has."

Joe said, "It wasn't on the list."

I pulled out my phone to open the web page and re-check the list. "He's right," I said. "It's not there."

What a weird thing, memory is. I would have been sure I saw that title there before. I keep thinking about that Black Mirror episode where a woman has the ability to change reality—and the entire history of reality prior to the change—for one other person, making her feel crazy. Is someone fucking with me!

Anyway that movies is really good, and holds up well, certainly in terms of the many things it has to say about class and the divide between the wealthy and the poor. It doesn't have quite the same impact as it has upon first watch, because the surprises aren't as much of, you know, surprises.

I really thought I had already seen it a second time, but whether at Action Movie Night or not, I can find no other record of having watched it.

Anyway. Shobhit made samosas for the potluck—the one meal brought this time that was vegetarian. I had thought this was the first time he made samosas for Action Movie Night, but that was aparently wrong as well: Ben said he was pretty sure he had done it once before. This was correct: we brought samosas, made using leftover potato filling for samosas Shobhit initially made for when we had Gabby and Nick over for dinner, in June of last year.

There would have been no noticeable difference among the others at Action Movie Night, but from Shobhit's and my perspective, there was a key difference, which I am realizing only now: last time, we brought samosas-as-leftovers, and only 10 of them. This time, the intitial batch was made specifically for Action Movie Night—and Shobhit made twenty-one of them.

I probably ate four. Maybe five. Four and a half? The last two were shared between Shobhit and me. So, probably a good half of the 21 samosas were eaten by Shobhit and me alone. He had me taste the potato filling when I got home from work, and I found it crunchier than usual—probably one or more of the vegetables he used. The final product, though, holy fuck were they delicious. God damn. No one else seemed as wildly impressed as I was but whatever.

They were so fucking good I could not stop eating them.

Shobhit also made what he calls "mango shake." It was really more of a mango smoothie. People will think there's ice cream in it if you call it a "mango shake," so I clarified for people: it was just four fresh mangoes, one banana, a couple of spices, four tablespoons of sugar, and milk, blended. Very tasty. But not a milkshake! Also it was what I used to make my cocktail for the evening: in my cup I had two shots of gold rum and one shot of coconut liqueur.

I was stunned my weight was slightly down this morning.

Parasite is fairly long, two hours and 13 minutes. And it kind of takes its time in the first half, before things get a little wild. This did mean Shobhit and I got back to the condo a bit later than usual. No time for any other TV—I did dishes and then went to bed.

Yesterday was a pretty standard Tuesday, and you know what that means! Not a lot to report on. I'm good with that, really. My insanly busy weekend kind of seeped into Monday evening, and last night was the one night all week that I did not have any plans. The most exciting thing I did was laundry.

Okay, that's not really true. Maybe it was the most important thing I did.

The most exciting thing I did was watch the season premiere of The Guilded Age on HBO Max; and then Sunday night's episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver—the main story being about "AI slop," and how it's infiltrating all our social media feeds and duping millions of people, so really it was as bleak an episode as ever. But at least John Oliver is funny! Anyway then we watched two more episodes of Laid on Peacock.

I did talk to Gabriel for about 20 minutes on the phone yesterday morning while I was at work, and he told me about his Sunday: he went to Washington State Summer Con at the fairgrounds in Puyallup, where he got to meet Elizabeth Dulau, who plays Kleya, his favorite character (and not a bad choice) on Andor, by a gigantic margin the best Star Wars TV show ever made; one of the best Star Wars productions of any medium ever made; and many who insist it's straight up the best Star Wars anything ever made would be hard to argue with. So anyway that was fun to hear about. Gabriel texted the group chat on Sunday a photo he had taken with her, and . . . well, let's just say that Elizabeth Dulau looks tiny.

Okay, so. What else? Shobhit and I walked to PCC to take advantage of the last day of the $5 off $15 deal in the Deli. I got a half pint of smoked mozzarella pasta that I intended to have for lunch today, and then promptly fogot to grab it when I left.

Oh! I did grab my spare bike helmet, though. Why? I was literally arriving at home on my bike yesterday before I even realized I had ridden the entire way without my helmet on. I had left it in my desk drawer at work. Jesus Christ! That was so dangerous. I even rode near several other cyclists on my way home, they all had helmets on, and it still didn't register that I wasn't wearing mine. Talk about bizarre. So today, I have two with me. I'll have to carry the spare in my backpack when I ride home. At least it's lightweight.

Anyway, Shobhit and I also walked from PCC to Trader Joe's for a few other things. We did this after watching The Guilded Age and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver but before watching Laid. I'm not giving this one a social review, though. This wasn't just going out for a walk. We may have still walked, but it was still just running errands. I have never qualified that as a social activity. Tough shit!
