We had our biweekly Action Movie Night last night. This week was a newer guy named Greg's turn, but I was asked to be a backup—I'm next on the list. I got slightly and pointlessly excited because this guy doesn't always come, so I thought maybe I'd get to choose by default. Nope! Greg came, and he chose a 1991 direct-to-video called
Dollman. I'd say the group overall had fun with it, but I didn't really. Let's just say this movie was
not my jam.
I must have slept through ten or fifteen minutes of it. It's usually Shobhit who does that. He told me later he also nodded off. This is not the best reflection of a movie with a runtime of all of 82 minutes.
We had 11 in attendance last night: Tony, Jake, Ryan, Chris G, Chris B, Derek, Andrew, Daniel, Greg, Shobhit and me. Only 3 empty seats in that theater this time around.
Shobhit and I brought pasta, as we do more often than not. Shobhit also made his
first-ever rosemary garlic sourdough bread, from the starter he has. I think he was smart to take my suggestion of slicing it before heading downstairs, as the outside was super crunchy. The inside wasn't, though, which really made it perfect for eating with the pasta once we were down there.
Chris G brought a vegetarian pizza. The pizzas he brings are always really good. Between the pasta, the bread, and not one but two slices of the pizza, I ate
way too much last night. I even split two mini pies from Schu Farms with Shobhit after we were back upstairs in the condo, which he had bought at their booth at the Tuesday Capitol Hill Farmers Market. They are so "mini" that each is two bites, but still. I was up almost two lbs this morning. When Shobhit asked if I wanted to split the last two pies, I was like: fuck it. I probably would have been up just about as much with or without the two bites of pie.

One thing was nice about that incredibly short movie runtime: it left more time than usual for the rest of the evening once it was done. Laney has been staying home all week with her cold, watching a bunch of streaming shows, so she's emailed me a few times with recommendations. The most recent one, which I saw when I went back down to the theater when I realized I had left my phone in my chair, was for the Hulu series
Dying for Sex, starring Michelle Williams as a woman with a terminal cancer diagnosis who decides to start exploring her sexuality in a way she never has before, Jenny Slate as her best friend, and Jay Duplass as her husband.
We watched the first two episodes. The pilot I thought was just okay; the second episode was really good. I only noticed just now that Rob Delaney is actually third-billed, even though he's not in the first two episodes. I've always really liked him so I look forward to that. He's credited as "Neighbor Guy." Maybe Michelle Willaims's character will fuck him? We'll find out!
