There's a guy who works here at the office, a few times a week anyway, in Marketing and Purpose—he's a Production Designer, so maybe more specifically in Graphics? His name is Olin, and he actually used to live in the Braeburn Condos where Shobhit and I live (where we have lived, incidentally, 18 years ago
today, I just realized while writing this very paragraph). Anyway, this guy has long hair, very well groomed, straight, and beautiful coloring. I kind of can't get over it. It looks like he might even highlight his blond hair. Could that be? I would be stunned if that coloring his natural color, but I suppose anything is possible. I think about it every time I see him in the office (such as today).
I'm pretty jealous either way. I no longer have the hairline for long hair to look that great—I have my twice-yearly haircut scheduled for Thursday this week, in fact. This is a good thing. My hair is getting a bit too long. I have long thought I would have to maintain a much shorter cut probably soon after I turn 50. One of the many things I keep thinking about turning 50 next April. Not that I'm obsessed or anything!
I'm 49 right now. Shobhit is 51. This would mean we were 31 and 33 when we moved into our condo. Mind you, Shobhit is right now three days from turning 52, so back then he was three days from turning 34. The passage of time . . . I hate thinking about it! I feel like the one upside to being in the back half of your life is you'll see less of the world's rapid decline into climate disaster and political chaos. What a relief!
That took a turn, didn't it?

I
posted yesterday about my apparently misguided "AI Pumpkin Party" on Saturday and the West Seattle Harvest Fest yesterday, neither of which invovled a Social Review point for anyone. That made it a sort if low-key weekend. Sachin is still staying with us, and we did have dinner and wine together on . . . I think that was Friday night. So that qualifies for a Social Review for both him and Shobhit, I guess. Nothing for Saturday or Sunday, though; Sachin has been largely doing his own thing. And last night, and maybe tonight too, he's stayed at the house he rents out to several tenants down in South Seattle.
What else, then? I went to see four movies in as many days between Thursday and Sunday:
The Mastermind on Thursday, which bored me half to death;
Blue Moon on Friday, which I found to be distractingly miscast;
Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere on Saturday, which I guess was okay but its lack of excitement left me relatively indifferent; and
If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, which—finally!—turned out to be easily the third-best movie I have seen all year. It'll go on my 2025 top 10 for sure.
Oh! I guess I should mention I went with Laney to see the
Springsteen movie. She expected it to be very nostalgic, although she did not know to expect it to be so somber, and about his depression as it relates to the making of his 1982 album,
Nebraska. She was a bit more into the whole childhood trauma angle than I was, but also agreed that it was not all that thrilling a movie to watch. I think she liked it better than I did, though.
Anyway, that's one other thing I did with a friend over the weekend. It just had nothing to do with holiday events. She had too much else going on to want to get together for pumpkin carving like we did last year. I'd love to get her back again for it next year, but I'm not holding my breath. I certainly won't go for any "AI Pumpkin" approach again. That was definitely a one-time deal.
The other movies, I just took myself to. And then, since I am in the middle of a rare month subscribing to Netflix, I finally fired up
Kpop Demon Hunters last night. Shobhit was actually kind of surprisingly into it—and still he fell asleep, commenting the few times he stirred awake that he didn't know why he was so tired. He had multiple all-day stints on Zoom SAG-AFTRA National Convention meetings, though; even if he's just sitting on the couch, that kind of mental engagement can be exhausting. So that kind of makes sense to me. He did say he might re-watch the movie later.
I already was very familiar with the soundtrack, at the recommendation of Lea; the movie gave them better context and make me enjoy them even more. This is now the most-watched Netflix movie in history, and I can kind of see why. It's basically inoffensive, has clever humor even for a movie clearly made for adolescents, and is undeniably entertaining. And the music is spectacularly catchy. I'm glad I finally watched it.
