  • Tue, 10:37: Apparently today is "#TeacherAppreciationDay," which brings to mind Mr. Vennum, who taught history at Rogers High School in Spokane. He stressed the difficulty of his AP History class was to prepare us for difficulty in college, which -- guess what! -- was a breeze by comparison. That said, he was always my favorite teacher, and gave me a unique sort of encouragement. He never told me I was smart or talented, only that "you're the hardest working student in my class." I actually appreciate pragmatism in offering compliments.
