When I was getting my daily tea in the office kitchen this morning, Tracy, our "Fresh Director" (basically the boss over in "Fresh," which includes Deli, Bakery and Produce), said good morning to me, and then said, "By the way Matthew, you've inspired me."

Oh?

He said he saw me reading a book on my lunch break yesterday—something I've been doing for ages—and so today he brought a book to read as well. He liked the idea of taking a break in the middle of the day, and seemed to take to the idea of specifically taking one with a book to read.

I love inspiring people!

What little I have to tell you about last night is this: I walked home from work, and was home for about 45 minutes, just long enough to eat some leftover dinner with Shobhit. Then, Shobhit walked with me to meet up with Laney at The Egytpian Theater at 6:30. Shobhit wasn't joining us for the movie, but came out with me to get steps in. He planned on taking a long walk while Laney and I were at the emovie.

I will be stunned if Shobhit doesn't eventually get a SAG Awards screener for this movie anyway, so he didn't need to see it. And when he does, I want to watch it with him, because I am eager to see it again. I absolutely adored All of Us Strangers, in spite of struggling a bit with the premise.

It was all about how it made me feel: I dinged it only slightly by giving an A-minus to Directing and to Writing. But, it was so incredibly well edited and so beautifully shot, I have Editing and Cinematography both an A+, which is super rare for me. I usually go for a solid A when I am incredibly impressed with something, but this movie was transcendant. And, it all evened out to a solid-A movie.

I really wish it had been released locally before the end of the year, so I could have included it on my 2023 top ten. Until the very end, I was certain it would have topped my list, but now I'm not sure—it still would have been in the top 5 though. It'll have to be included in my 2024 top ten, and there's just no getting around that. I'll be discussing it at the end of 2024 when critics across the country were talking about how great it was at the end of 2023. Don't blame me, though, blame the motherfuckers at the distributing company.

Anyway, Laney and I both really loved it. I cried a lot. She cried a fair bit. We had a lot to discuss about it outside the theater before she went home to her building right around the corner, and we've exchanged further emails about it this morning. I can't wait to watch it again, although it will be a very different experience upon rewatch.
