Not a lot to report today, except that I thought I would make the "compromise" commute home last night, walking to the Monorail station at Seattle Center and then transferring to Light Rail at Westlake Station. I got down to the tunnel mezzanine level, however, and was greeted by signage reminders that the northbound track was closed—I had forgotten that, until Februar 5, Light Rail is operating on reduced service due to planned track maintenance work. Riders were warned that the downtown corridor will have train frequency reduced to every 26 minutes, and apparently the reduced service yesterday had trains taking up to 35 minutes to arrive.

I'm not waiting around for that, especially when I had only a mile to walk home from there. Had I taken the train, it would have still left me with half a mile to walk from Capitol Hill Station, but I had aimed to take Monorail + Light Rail just to give me a few extra minutes indoors to work on finishing my library book. Had a #8 been coming any sooner than 18 minutes after I left the office, I'd have just taken that bus home, but I saw no sense in waiting that long. In the end, I really might as well have just walked the entire way, as I likely would have without the book to read.

Shobhit had clearly read in my blog that my book was so overdue that my library account had been suspended, and so I needed to get it returned by Saturday at the latest to avoid getting charged the price of it. He kept telling me I should finish the book last night, but my first priority was to watch the season finale of Fargo.

I'll repeat here what I posted to my socials this morning about Fargo:

I keep forgetting to mention this, and I really want to: this week's season five finale of FARGO, especially the back half of it, was some of the best television I have seen in a long, long time.

Setting aside a couple of great characters this season that got a bit of a disappointing short shrift (Deputy Witt Farr and especially Deputy Indira Olmstead), it was otherwise an amazing ending to a fantastic season.

If you haven't watched, you absolutely should, especially bearing in mind that this is an anthology series, so you miss nothing by starting with season five if you've never seen the others.

Laney had already texted me at about 10:30 yesterday morning: Oh my god have you watched the finale of Fargo season 5? I had to quickly reply, No! Don't tell me about it! We'll watch tonight 😊

And then, once the finale was over, I was so eager to talk about it with Laney that I texted her to ask if she still had access to Skype. I did this after downloading the program to my MacBook, only to have her suggest Facebook Messenger face chat instead—something I should have thought of to begin with. We talked over face chat for a good while (28 minutes) about the show, while she prepared her dinner.

She showed me her dinner when it was finished, and when I saw all the broccoli in it I said, "Barf!" Just like Shobhit is prone to, she immediately mentioned how good for you broccoli is. I don't care, that shit is nasty.

Anyway, it was nice to get to chat about the show with her for about half an hour. Then, I did indeed spend some time reading my book. I even got to go sit out in the living room to read for a short bit, as Shobhit was also reading a library book (a novel called The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris; never heard of it). He didn't seem that immediately into it, though, and soon enough started playing news program clips on his laptop, which I just cannot handle when I am trying to read. So, I retreated to the bedroom again.

I had only about 15 pages left when I got to work this morning, after reading a few on the bus downtown. I'm finally finished with it, and have already made a plan for Shobhit to get lots of steps in today by meeting me at the office, then walking with me, first to get one last look at PCC's downtown store—now set to close tomorrow—and then to return my book at the Central Library. There, I can also hopefully reactivate my account so I can also check out the next book I already have ready for me to pick up.
