My Bluesky posts

  • Wed, 12:50: IM from my boss today, who only works in-office 1-2 times a week:

"I love sitting by you because I get to hear a lot of 'are you fucking kidding me' and 'jesus christs' all day long lol"

On the one hand, I found this hilarious. On the other hand, I guess I had no idea what a crotchety old man I've become.
  • Wed, 18:00: So Katie Wilson will be Seattle's next mayor, having won by the slimmest of margin, barely outside the threshold for a state-mandated recount.

I was never that excited about Bruce Harrell, not even when he won in 2021. I plugged my nose and voted for him this time, only because he was the only one, even at a Town Hall during the primary, who seemed to have any real understanding of how shit actually works. All of the other candidates were clearly out of their depth. Even Katie Wilson, albeit far less so than all the other primary candidates, which was clearly why it ultimately came down to these two.

I genuinely think her lack of experience will be an issue, and even if it weren't, she'll inevitably have to compromise with City Council—something her diehard supporters don't talk a lot about (she's not going to come in with a magic wand and make all their dreams come true). But, I am choosing to be cautiously optimistic. I still think she's out of her depth, but all we can do now is give her a chance, and I'm ready and willing to be proven wrong. In fact I'd be delighted.
