When I
posted yesterday about Action Movie Night on Wednesday, I had not yet uploaded
the photo I took of the batch of 21 samosas Shobhit made for it. But now I have!
At my request, Shobhit made more for me last night, to bring to work today. They were a
huge hit, as expected—but never has Shobhit made better samosas than these ones. They're always amazing, but these ones are special, even by his usual standards.
He made me eight of them, and they were ready for me to pack into a container this morning. I saved two to have for lunch. I ate another one myself this morning. That left five for me to reheat in the office kitchen toaster oven and share. I gave one to Gabby, Noah, Scott in IT, Marie in IT, and Andrew in IT.
The IT people have all been very helpful over time in different ways, so I felt they deserved it. Scott is relatively new here, he's been at PCC for barely more than a year and a half at this point. I went over to the IT section really to look for Marie, but I already started thinking I would give one to Scott. When I asked if he would like one of my husband's homemade samosas, he said, "Hallelujah, yes!"
Shobhit's samosas spark religion in people before they have ever even tried them.
Noah had the funniest reaction. When I presented him with a freshly reheated samosa, wrapped in a paper towel, he gasped loudly, like a child suddenly given ice cream.
I'd love to share one with Frank, but he's vegan, and these samosas have a tomato basil cheese in them—the one I bought at the Whole Foods on Capitol Hill when they were about to close and everything was 60% off.
I actually texted Gabby last night to see if she'd be in the office today. She said yes and when I said I would be bringing samosas, she was very excited. After we had our 1x1 meeting this morning (which we usually have in the afternoon but due to her schedule and also her being in-office this morning, actually unusual on Fridays), she reiterated how good it was and asked me to tell Shobhit thank you for her.
I even asked Shobhit to text me a photo of the ingredients. People have asked me for his recipe several times over the years, and I was always like: he doesn't have one. His samosas are at least slightly different every time, because he cooks to taste. But because he's on Weight Watchers currently and tracking points, he actually wrote out all the ingredients this time. And I think this was a big part of what made them so great: not only did he use garbanzo beans, which he doesn't usually do, but he used PCC's own
Turkish Garbanzo Salad, which I did not even realize until seeing the list. That plus the tomato basil sartori cheese from WHole Foods plus his scratch-made breading—this all made them truly amazing.

All that aside, my evening last night was dominated by taking myself to a movie:
F1, which I really enjoyed. Side note: all the promotional materials use the full title
F1: The Movie, which I kind of think is dumb but also kind of get, as it's an actual brand. The title card in the movie itself, though, was only
F1.
As I noted in my review, I liked
Ford v. Ferrari better—I have that one an A-minus; this one a B+, so the difference was not huge. I thought the story was better done in
Ford v. Ferrari. But both of them have thrilling action sequences of car races. I'd recommend either of them really.
They are also both about two and a half hours long, give or take a few minutes. This was why I had to write the review while I was at work this morning (don't tell anyone!): my only showtime option yesterday was 6:45. This meant I rode my bike home first, and Shobhit also fried me up a couple of new samosas in the hour or so that I was home. I then rode my bike again back down to Pacific Place, just so I could save some time getting back afterward, even though it meant riding in the dark at like 9:45pm. I have a light on my helmet, at least. It was fine.
I was going to see if AMC had a custom popcorn bucket for
F1 and I totally forgot to look. Apparently they were indeed made—in the shape of
racedriver helmets—I just don't know if my local AMC had them.
Anyway. Laney had decided to bow out of that one, so I saw the movie on my own. I still had a great time. The time passed easily, which reflects on it well. It was around 10:00 by the time I actually got home, even on my bike. Shobhit had taken a walk, and he was right there on the sidewalk about to walk back into the building when I rounded the corner on 15th to head for the garage. He came in that way with me.
My review is slightly shorter than usual. I might normally have written more or found some more to say about it, but I had to work on it in fits and starts. People kept interrupting me to do actual work! What a pain in the ass.
