My Bluesky posts

  • Sun, 21:19: Beneath a couple of elevated boardwalks that come to a T between Grand Ave & Madrona Dr is a lush, one-block valley of green space called the Madrona Briar Patch.

I very first discovered it in April 2020, about a month into pandemic stay-home orders, when I was taking solitary walks, in this case straight up Pine Street all the way to Lake Washington. This spot is on that route, blocking Pine Street from going through, the walkway offering only pedestrian passage.

Now, however, this spot is called Valley of the Gnomes. I only discovered it earlier this year, in April—a solid five years after discovering these boardwalks. Shobhit and I were on a walk, and found the spot now has alll these garden gnomes hidden all over the place in the brush below.

Alexia came to hang out with us today and the three of us walked over there to spend more dedicated time checking it out. It’s utterly charming, and there seem to be different gnomes to be found each time I visit. Curiously, based on my google searches, the gnomes have been there at least since January 2021—all of nine months after I first walked through the spot.
