I meant to update about my weekend before leaving for North Cascades National Park, and then I never got around to it. I guess I'll have to do that now.
Quick side note: I did write up the email travelogue for North Cascades and Winthrop from Monday and yesterday, and it was sent out last night at 11:00 on the dot. What this means, however, is that I haven't had time to convert it to the needed html format to cross-post it as an entry here on this journal yet—I will; I just don't know exactly when. I have to make food for Action Movie Night tonight, and then attend it—it's my movie pick this week. And tomorrow is when I will go pick up both Shobhit and Ivan, who will be on the same train up from Portland, although that's not scheduled to arrive until 9:20, and God knows whether it will be on time. I need to do a bit of cleaning for Ivan's visit as well, but I still think I should have the travelogue cross-posted here by tomorrow at the latest.
The trouble now, for the weekend prior to the past two days, is I can't quite remember what the hell I did, except on Saturday! Oh, wait: I just checked the Photos app in my phone, and I took a photo of my PCC receipt on Friday, at Gabby's request the next time I went shopping, to demonstrate how the way promotion discounts are listed can be confusing. So that reminds me that, after I'm pretty sure I made us chai, Shobhit and I went over to the Central District PCC, and I bought a bunch of Zevia Soda 6pks since it's on sale.
Exciting stuff!
Saturday was the eventful day, between Friday, Saturday and Sunday: while Shobhit went canvassing for Bruce Harrell for re-election to Mayor (he later told me polling has Katie Wilson becoming a viable challenger—very interesting, especially after the candidates forum we attended last week), Laney and I took the King County Water Taxi over to Alki in West Seattle. It was time for our perrennial BYOB Happy Hour at Don Armeni Park!
We were pretty happy with the photo I got, setting my camera timer up with my phone propped on a nearby bench. We brought Laney's two lawn chairs with us and sat closer to the water. Bringing both these chairs—in the past she sat in her one chair and I sat at a picnic table—allowed us much greater mobility and flexibility in selecting a spot, and we sat right by the bathrooms. A very smart choice, when you're someone who has to pee frequently (as both Laney and I do, probably related to age in both cases, even though we're 18.5 years apart). I especially have to pee frequently when consuming alcohol, and I brought a tumbler of Zevia Cherry Cola with three shots of rum added.
It was quite lovely, and although I did bring and apply sunblock, I did not do it enough—I noticed just the other night that I had tan lines on my feet in the shape of my sandals. I noticed a slightly stinging sensation up my lower legs even by Sunday morning. Oops.

Laney had some extra funds in her budget and so she offered to buy me another drink over at Marination Ma Kai. I had a "Mai Kai," their version of a Mai Tai, because I wanted to stick with rum and not mix up my liquors. I got pretty buzzed, and definitively cut myself off after that because I would have otherwise gone into "wasted" and maybe even blackout territory—I drank so much water the rest of the evening that I must have gotten up to pee no fewer than four times that night.
It was worth it though! Saturday was a really fun day. And even though my legs got sunburned (I guess I put enough sunblock on my arms), the weather was perfect.

Shobhit and I basically spent all of Sunday watching TV or movies. We finished
Murderbot on Apple TV, and I also had a 1973 whodunnit movie on DVD from the library, called
The Last of Sheila. It was all right, although some of the time I found it hard to follow, and even Shobhit agreed on that.
We walked to Pacific Supply to buy a new toilet flush lever, because the last one broke in the middle of the night Saturday night. I'm kind of surprisingly good at fixing this kind of stuff, once I get the right parts; just the day before I had to buy a new part to re-fix a leak in the bathroom hot water faucet handle in my sink in the primary bathroom. It's fairly simple, actually, although it may not feel like it if you've never fixed something like this before. I may need to reassess where the chain is linked to the flush lever, though; the toilet clogged last night and kept filling when I flushed it, and a stunning amount of water spilled all over the floor. I had to wash two towels last night.
Anyway, we watched
The Gilded Age and then we otherwise both did what packin we could on Sunday night—I dropped him off at King Street Station before driving straight up to meet Dad and Sherri at their casino hotel in Anacortes on Monday morning. I spent the past two days going to North Cascades National Park and Winthrop and back; Shobhit took Amtrak down to Portland for the labor conference he's attending in Vancouver, WA until tomorrow.
I haven't gotten any responses via email yet to my travelogue—I didn't expect to yet, it went out so late last night—but, when I got to work this morning, Frank immediately said: "I enjoyed your update about Winthrop. I love that town!" He must have read the email after getting to work; both he and Noah were already here when I arrived at 7:16 a.m.
I still have over 160 unread emails just from the past two days, though, so I guess I better get back to it. And I'll post the travelogue account of Monday and Tuesday as soon as I can.
