Thu, 08:03: In America, we have a far greater chance of one day witnessing the gruesome shooting of not just multiple people, but multiple children, than in any other country on the planet not actively involved in a war.
In the aggregate, Americans straight up don't care. People may pretend they care, but then they elect people who straight up don't care, who do literally nothing even when children are slaughtered, openly stating that protecting the Second Amendment is more important, thereby making it easier to get a gun than to get an abortion, or even to drive a fucking car. Women and actual, living children simply have no value.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was on to something when he said yesterday, “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now, these kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school, they were in a church.” In other words: fuck your "thoughts and prayers."
I won't even take the boneheaded route of invoking the current administration with this. Sandy Hook was 13 years ago. America did nothing about the senseless slaughter of children then, and it will do nothing about it now. This is what America is. This is what America has always been. It's not something to be proud of.
