Not a lot to report today, and that was by design: I already
posted about my New Year's this year yesterday. That was, as is basically standard now, copied and pasted (but with all the necessary html commands for formatting and photo embedding) from the travelogue email I wrote, which I spent most of the afternoon working on after driving gome from breakfast at Toast to Toast at the Holiday Inn. We all left there at about 11:30, my
final photo being of Beth, driving Gina and Angel two lanes over from me on Denny Way. I didn't even notice them until Beth honked at me, and then when we got up to the red lights at Stewart Street, I pulled up alongside her to get a picture. They were in the lane that veers to the right to filter them onto I-5 south; I was in the lane that continues up the bridge over I-5 to Capitol Hill; the emplty lane between us was the bus lane.
My New Year's email is typically pretty easy to write up, as fewer of the photos have any need for links—a bunch of them will just be of the Space Needle, fireworks, and most years, drones, but this year I got just
the one shot of those, learning later that the thick fog had resulted in the drone show being canceled.
Not long after I was done with that write-up, I made myself Field Roast veggie corn dogs for dinner, and I prepped for my first foray down to Steamworks for the year. I won't get into detail about that here, except to say that I had a very good time, even though I was disappointed to discover that, evidently due to the holiday, they were charging weekend rates: even with my membership active, a standard room cost me $47, and it would have been $34 on a normal Thursday before 6:00. I was kind of stunned by how busy it was even at around 5:00, though, so fromt that perspective it makes sense for them to jack up the prices at a time of higher demand.
I think I was there maybe three and a half hours. I was still really hungry when I got home so I made myself an English muffin egg sandwich. My weight was still down 0.8 lbs this morning, to 166.4 lbs, which made me very happy. My hope is that I can get into a real groove with this, post-holidays and with Shobhit out of town, and then be deep enough into that groove even after he returns. I'd love to lose 10 or maybe even 20 lbs before we go to World Pride in Amsterdam this summer. And I'll definitely check out a bathhouse there, which I imagine will be much better than the ones here in the States.

I nearly spaced that I had a Zoom lunch scheduled with Karen today—usually I'm the one to send the confirmation email, but this morning she did it! So that made our first lunch of the calendar year 2026.
This is the year I turn 50, by the way. For some reason when I think too much about that I kind of want to barf.
Anyway, we spent an hour catching up—Karen doing the majority of it, but that kind of made sense as I have sent out three holiday-season email travelogues since I last got together for a Zoom lunch (all of two weeks ago). She told me a lot about getting wheelchair access accommodations on the Eurostar train for when she goes to Brussels in about a month or so.
We also talked a lot about the
Zootopia movies. She saw a disabled person online talking about the new one (the fourth-most successful movie of 2025), and she didn't even realize it was a sequel. I think she'd really enjoy them both, but I told her I think the first one is a lot better than the second.
Oh, and she told me about all the attention Anita got wearing a Seattle Kraken sweater in Boston when they were all there visiting Karen's mom this past week, and naturally that made me think of
Heated Rivalry, the steamy gay romance about hockey players on HBO. I warned her that it has tons of gay sex in it but the show is still phenomenal, and somewhat to my surprise, she seemed fairly interested in checking it out.
Anyway, that seems about all the news that's fit to print at the moment.
