Not much to report today—it's Tuesday! I had no movie to go to last night, I walked home from work, I made chai. I spent some time working on the 50-year life retrospective video I'm making for my own 50th birthday, which I did for all three of my siblings so it's only fair!
I had this idea that it would be a challenge to find a lot of footage of myself in front of the camera, as I'm always the one holding it. Turns out I have plenty such footage, especially given that I've been slaphappy with videotaping since I was 16 years old. (I did move away from it significantly between 2004 and about 2011 for some reason. I think because my enthusiasm waned for the video recorder and then it took a couple of years for smart phones to record quality video—which now records with exponentially better quality than video tapes could ever have hoped to.)
I'm aiming for a 15-minute runtime on this, and I'm being pretty strict with myself about allowing 3 minutes for each decade of my life. The one sort-of cheat is, since I have no home video footage of the first 10 years, I allowed for 6 minutes total for the first two decades. This is the one section where I include several still photos, which I am otherwise mostly avoiding, just because I have such a vast collection of video footage to pull from.
Pretty much just last night, I got done with the 3 minutes that will represent ages 20-30.

When I made the video for Dad's 70th birthday last year,
The Magnificent Seventy, I made a 10-minute video, which I later extended to about 15 when I added footage from his birthday party. I will likely do the same with this video for my 50th, but in this case it'll probably extend from 15 minutes to around 20.
It would be really fun to finda way to show the video
at the party; it would probably be easier at Dad and Sherri's house since they actually have a TV to connect to and the venue last summer did not. But, the party won't be until May 2, and I will want to share the video on my actual birthday. My plan is to post it to my socials on the morning of Thursday, April 30. I have plenty of time to finish and polish it, but I'm kind of "in the zone" with it right now. I'm really enjoying the process.
Shobhit had an emergency SAG-AFTRA Local board meeting between 6:00 and 7:00, and I worked on the video during that time. Later, after Shobhit's meeting, we watched another one of his Actor Awards screeners. This time it was
Bugonia, and I am discovering a key element of nearly all Yorgos Lanthimos films: I tend to enjoy them more each time I rewatch them. This absolutely happened with each of the three times I watched
The Favourite, and again with each of the three times I watched
Poor Things. I still think both of those movies are better than
Bugonia, but I found I enjoyed even this one a great deal more on second viewing.
