Tue, 19:48: Well, I don’t want to have to text this same info dozens of times so I’m posting it here: Shobhit’s in the hospital. No imminent major threat but they’re keeping him overnight as a precaution due to his family health history.
A nurse from our doctor’s office called 911 for him due to a combination of chest pain, slight difficulty breathing, and most worryingly 153/101 blood pressure. The BP is back to normal now and has been for several hours.
He was taken to Virginia Mason Medical Center, 3/4 mile from home, in an ambulance. He went in his pajama bottoms and T-shirt. I bussed back home to fetch him his laptop and a pair of shoes, plus a few other things.
My office is itself only slightly more than half a mile from the hospital so I later went back to work, but am hanging out at the hospital with him now. They moved him from the ER to a room while I was running the errand for him, and now he’s on the 7th floor of Virginia Mason’s Central Pavilion. His view this time isn’t quite as great as it was for his 2023 appendectomy. What a disappointment! ☹️
Shobhit’s troponin level (an enzyme released by the heart when there is damage) was super low when he was brought in around 11 a.m., and wasn’t really changed when they tested again at 3:00, which is why he’s staying overnight and they’ll test again in the morning to make sure they can rule out immediate heart damage.
Other than that, though, he’s doing okay. He’s been given medication to lower his blood pressure and hopefully tomorrow the tests will be normal. He technically had the option of going home tonight but he wound up deciding to stay when he realized it’ll be part of the eventual hospital bill anyhow (worth noting here that he’s on my health insurance which is amazing).
