Toy Travels

Last night I took myself to see Toy Story 5. I gave it a B+ and I stand by that, but it would still fall into the category of "fine" by relative standards—the first three of these movies were all amazing, but 4 and 5 really offered nothing new in the way of animated or narrative innovation.

That basically took up the bulk of my evening. Shobhit was home when I got home after the movie but left shortly after; I wrote the review while he was out at a leather event. With the expectation of Ivan arriving for a weekend visit today, I also vacuumed every room in the condo; took out the trash; took out the recycling; took the collapsible wagon back to the trunk of the car; took both the duffle bag and the cooler we had taken to Whistler back down to the storage unit; cleaned the guest room toilet and hung a new towel in there; and washed some dishes. After having done all that, it was slightly irksome that Shobhit got home from his event and, although he thanked me for vacuuming and taking the stuff downstairs, he then pivoted to being annoyed that I didn't heat up a naan for him to have with his dinner when he got home. What am I, housewife to a chauvinist husband? Had I not done enough already? Having no idea how long he'd be out, I didn't see the point in heating his naan; it would have been cold anyway. Not frozen, sure, but still cold. He heated the naan in the microwave and that worked fine.

I just had my biweekly Zoom lunch with Karen, which was very lively with discussion, mostly about travel. She recently went with Anita to San Diego, where they both sat on accessibility panels related to architecture. I guess Anita was invited because there was a session about accessibility in schools, and Anita is a teacher who is a wheelchair user.

We also talked a little about how I'm doing now, three and a half weeks after the bike accident, and Shobhit's and my trip to Whistler last weekend (we talked a lot about the gondolas and chairlifts and Karen's fear of heights), and our upcoming trip to Amsterdam. Shobhit and I finally managed to book our tickets to the Anne Frank House yesterday; we're going at 3:15 in the afternoon on Sunday, August 2. That'll be six days after we arrive in Amsterdam, and the day before we leave on a Eurostar train for our three nights in Brussels.

In any case, you have to be very careful about when and how you book tickets to the Anne Frank House, which sell out. In fact, the biggest reason we chose Sunday, August 2 is because it was the only day for the week ending on that day with tickets earlier than late in the evening still available. I still regarded Anne Frank House as the most important thing to book in advance, and now we can start looking at what else we want to book in advance, such as the Van Gogh Museum, and palace tours and whatnot.

As you can see, I've got a lot going on this summer. Ivan arrives today; he and I are going to the Fremont Solstice Parade tomorrow. Next week is Pride Weekend and Tess's Graduation Party. The weekend after that is 4th of July Weekend, with the 4th itself conveniently on a Saturday this year and therefore the day off work on the 3rd. The next weekend I'll go to Tacoma Pride with Tracy. The weekend after that is the least booked-up, but I do have booked tickets on Saturday the 18th for Tracy and me to see The Odyssey at Southcenter. And the weekend after that? We fly off to Amsterdam!
