fewer screenings and greater plans

I went to another movie last night, the second in as many days and the third since Friday, when I went to a movie for the first time in 18 days. I have this thing where I like it best if I can get to the movies at least 100 times in a year, which thus averages 8.3 per month, or about 2 a week. At this point, I'm averaging 1 per week in July, even with having seen three in the past five days alone. At the moment I have all of one on the calendar between now and when we leave for Amsterdam Saturday of next weekend; I'll probably add at least one or two in the meantime. The last solid week of July we will be traveling, plus nearly the first two weeks of August. I'm certainly not going to prioritize movie-going while on vacation. If I want to make it to 100 by the end of the year, I'll have to increase the weekly afterage after mid-August. We'll see how that goes; I'll also been movies in theaters that are actually compelling. My OCD tendencies here do not extend to going to movies I already know I won't like just to boost the numbers.

Anyway! Yesterday I saw Maddie's Secret, which I both liked and kind of didn't get. You can read the review for more details there if you are so inclined.

I could conceivably go to a movie tomorrow or Friday. I just checked the AMC listings and the options are not great. I mean, I'm very excited for The Odyssey, but I'm seeing that with Tracy in Tukwila on Saturday. The other major release this week is the live action remake of Moana, and you'd have to pay me to go see that. There's just a lot of worthless shit being released these days.

There's an outdoor movie screening of Sinners at Cal Anderson Park Friday evening though. I'm thinking about going to that. It feels like every person I tell One Battle After Another was my favorite movie last year, they say theirs was Sinners, and I still have seen the latter only once.

I see now that the DVD of In Bruges is finally available for me to pick up at the library, so I guess I know what I'll be watching tonight. Our TV can't seem to play DVDs without distorting the image which is crazy making but whatever.

First, though, I'm going to ride my bike straight to 20/20 Cycle after work today. I'm almost certain I'm going to need to replace the cassette, which may be a new, significant expense. I'll do what I have to do though. Today is the fourth weekday in a row I've commutted by bike, and I'm already very, very sick of the pedals jerking forward as I push against them.

Once I get home from that, I shall make chai for the first time in a solid week—in which I either didn't get home early enough or I was going to have cocktails and I try not to drink both on the same day. Shobhit should have dinner ready. And, then we'll watch In Bruges. Maybe it will help us decide whether to visit Bruge or Anterp while in Brussels, because we won't have time to do both. I suddenly have new interest in Antwerp, having learned that city has a train station widely regarded as the most beautiful in the world. But, what else is there? Probably plenty. But, a Belgian Laney met the other day told her Ghent is even better than Bruge because it's apparently just as pretty but less touristy, and it's on the way to Bruge from Brussels which means we could conceivably check out both places in one day.

So many choices! It feels like there are way more options for attractions and things to do for this trip to Europe than there was for Australia. And my check list for Amsterdam doesn't even include the many World Pride-related events.

It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a trip.
