DLused and unused

I am working from home again today. I think I woke up once an hour through the night, and was a bit congested when I woke up. I'm also coughing slightly more, but not a huge amount. But! As the day wears on, I seem to be much less congested, particularly as I write this—knock wood—so, as of right now anyway, I plan to go back into the office tomorrow. I'm pretty obsessed with making it to the Merchandising Enablement Team Happy Hour, which was scheduled for tomorrow at the Nest rooftop bar—my choice—to commemorate my 24th anniversary at PCC (which was actually August 5). This Happy Hour is so tied to me, and Gabby went so far out of her way to make the reservations at the maximum two weeks early, I really don't want to miss it.

If I feel markedly worse tomorrow, that obviously changes things. But I feel slight improvement today, and feel like if that holds, I can go back to the office. I'll just make sure to have a ton of cough drops handy. I was blowing my nose all day in the office on Monday, and don't seem to be having to do that nearly as much so far today, so there's that.

I'd sure love to have an uninterrupted seven hours of sleep, though.

Anyway! I really don't like working from home, but there are benefits here and there. For instance, Shobhit is out for a few hours as he's walking and taking Light Rail to his Weight Watchers meeting in the U District. He's going to stop at the pharmacy on his way back. So, as I write this, I have Madonna's CONFESSIONS II album playing from my personal computer (through external speakers) on the other side of the room. I don't have to listen using my AirPods; I can sing along (such as I am capable, with a cold). It's quite nice. Madonna makes everything better!

I've been thinking about the record 1,993 photos I took on the trip to Amsterdam and Brussels. That's quite a lot—and has yielded a lot for me to flag for use in Daily Lunch Updates (DLUs), like this one. But, this trip has not produced a record number of DLU photos.

I think that distinction would still go to the trip to Yellowstone National Park in 2018. I still have 118 shots from that trip tagged with "dlunused" (meaning DLU photos still unused) from that trip; 115 tagged with "dlused" (meaning DLU photos that I have used in these posts). This means that, even eight years later, I haven't quite used even half the amazing photos I took on that trip that work for DLU posts. And I took 479 photos total on that trip—but, to be fair, nearly all of it was gorgeouys, picturesque scenery.

The Netherlands and Belgium, by contrast, have yielded a combined 249 potential DLU photos (27 of them used, as of today).

. . . Oh. Ha! I guess this trip actually beat that Yellowstone record. Yellowstone's total came to 233. Netherlands and Belgium beat that by 15 shots. Granted, Netherlands and Belgium was a trip three times as long as Yellowstone, with four times the number of photos overall. The record Yellowstone likely retains is the percentage of overall photos that were DLU shots—49%, versus 12% for Netherlands and Belgium. This makes sense for a host or reasons, not least of which are the countless photos I took of Amsterdam's Canal Parade and other WorldPride events that are what I would consider worthy shots generally speaking but not the best candidates for inserting into my Daily Lunch Updates.

I got a call from Amanda at work and we ended up chatting for nearly 40 minutes, only a few of those minutes actually about work. She did immediately tell me, though, that I sounded better than I did yesterday. Great to hear! Hopefully the improvement trend continues and I'll be good to return to the office tomorrow. I actually do feel pretty good right now, aside from the occasional coughing.
