Yesterday right after work I took myself to see the movie Slanted. It was far from terrible, but it also wasn't great. A whole lot of squandered potential there. Laney certainly didn't miss anything by declining to join me for that one.

I had originally planned to see it tonight, but I moved it to Monday when I realized Shobhit had a BIPOC networking and recruitment event to attend downtown. That was scheduled 5:30 to 7:30, but he was headed home by around 7:00. I guess they had food there; I fed myself with Field Roast mini veggie corn dogs, and only six of them so on their own they would have been a perfectly light meal. But, we still had a box of Smoked Cheddar Cheez-Its from QFC and some brie left from Costco, both of which had been purchased for consuming during the Oscars on Sunday (that was when we ate the box of Smoked Gouda Cheez-Its), and we polished those off last night between the two of us as well. At least now we no longer have any snack crackers or snack cheese at home. If any of that shit's around, we're going to eat it.

He got home when I was about halfway through writing my review. Then we watched this week's episode of Paradise on Hulu, a show that gets dumber by the episode but I'm still hooked on it; and then we watched the first episode of season 2 of Hijack on Apple TV, which is the only show I still had left to watch on Apple whose season is actually done. (I'll still need to subscribe to one more month to finish a couple shows still currently being released week to week.)

That about summed up my evening.

My quarterly doctor appointment this morning was also my annual physical. It's so nice having the office downtown, as it only takes me like 10 minutes to walk up there to Virginia Mason on First Hill from here. Unlike when our office was on Elliott Avenue, I can really make all my appointments over there any time of day. My appointment today was at 9:00 a.m., so I was here by 7:30 as usual, and worked until heading over there at about 8:35.

Frank and Noah are in-office today, and both noticed me gathering my things. "Have a good day!" Frank quipped. "Nice to have you in for one hour!" Noah said. "I'm coming back," I said.

The appointment was pretty routine, but for one key detail: it turns out there's a whole slate of new screenings or vaccines that are recommended, or that insurance will cover, once you turn 50. This is happening to me next month, so, for instance, as soon as my birthday passes, I can just make an appointment for the two-shot series for my shingles vaccine. I know some people don't react that well to that vaccine, which makes me a little nervous, but I also know getting shingles would be way worse. Apparently the vaccine decreases shingles risk by 90%! And given that I did have a bad case of chicken pox as a kid, I probably don't want to take any chances. And any broadly anti-vaccine dipshits out there can truly go fuck themselves. With a syringe needle.

Dr. Means also mentioned a vaccine for a bacterial form of pneumonia, which was recently lowered from recommended after age 65 to recommended after 50. So I should get that too. And there are other things to screen in blood work more regularly in the coming years too, I guess. It also sounds like he may recommend yet another pill for me to take because my iron levels have been slightly low the last two times they checked, and if they are again then I guess I have yet another fucking pill to take. I guess this is a rite of passage in aging, huh? Just regularly making room for more pills.
