Total days in the summer with social interaction: 50 (54.9%, a -7.1 percentage point change from summer)

. . . Damn! I thought the 54 people I socialized with over the course of the summer was a lot—this time, I fell only one short of crossing the 60-person mark! Surely I have never gotten that close before, although to be fair, a good number of people are now kind of baked into a sort of social frequency—hence the asterisks, as well as the seemingly out-of-order rankings when considering the number of points people have. But, if I've socialized with a person on several different days but only barely on all or most given days (as is certainly the case with most of the guys at Action Movie Night, as well as a lot of people at work parties or outings), then I decided to rank them a bit lower, based on a very rough estimate of the cumulative number of hours actually interacting with any given individual.

This is why, for instance, Derek is ranked below four other people with fewer points than him. He may have been at every one of the seven Action Movie Nights this quarter (as was I), but I couldn't have said more than a few words total to him through all of those nights. Thus, ranking him at #3 would have been utterly preposterous, especially considering every time I hang out with Tracy it's always for anywhere between three and five hours at a time, at least half of that typically very direct, one-on-one conversational interaction. The same concept applies to the three people ranked below Tracy, just to a lesser degree.

It's also why I decided to apply the asterisks, to give a sense of why certain people might appear to be ranked out of order.

As for the others in the top five: Shobhit went from 36 points over the summer to 24 points over the fall, but of course that still left him leaps and bounds ahead of the now-standard second-ranked person: our neighbor, Alexia. (She actually ranked fourth over the summer, but had been second in the spring, and last winter.) If Alexia drops from second, it tends to be in a swap with Tracy, who is third here—although Laney managed to sneak back to the #2 slot over the summer when she was in town, plummeting to #14 now with only three points due to shifting back to monthly Virtual Happy Hours while she returned to traveling. Thus, as expected Karen easily fits into the current #4 spot, thanks to our twice-monthly lunches over FaceTime. The #5 spot is a bit more of a surprise, with Mel from working squeezing in there thanks to her organization of multiple work parties, plus our being in Book Club together, which itself meets monthly (except we skipped December). Kara got to #6 for essentially the same reason, often assisting Mel with the parties and also being in Book Club.

The 7-9 spots are taken up by guys who tend to be at Action Movie Night; Dad and Sherri get into the #10 and #11 spots because of our traveling together to Wallace, Idaho for Christopher's 50th birthday party in September. I have never included family gatherings as "social" events in the same category, and track those separately, which is why no family gets points for Christopher's party, for for just getting together in Leavenworth for a few days for that matter. Dad and Sherri get these three points each because we actually went out to eat on three different days that we were together.

Danielle, who only got one point in the summer, gets three points this time around due to hanging out for several hours at a time on three different dates (two of them back to back, Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, when we went to the Lighting of the Tree Cerenony). Still she only ranks #12 here, when in the past three points would typically rank much higher. I actually didn't see Gabriel over the summer at all so he fell off that list entirely (which I'm sure gave him some smug satisfaction), but we did do our annual Virtual Pumpkin Carving Party in October, giving him one point this time around and thus ranking him at #22. At that same event a single point was given to Lea, Tess and Mandy.

Once we get past the top 25, the nearly all the others on the list are one-offs or two-offs of people at either work parties or at Action Movie Night. So, although I socialized on several fewer days in the fall than I did over the summer, I was still around even more people—and thus even more people on average per day that I did socialize. It's kind of a wonder I haven't gotten sick again. I suppose I should knock on wood!

Anyway let's get to the who did what with whom where and when.
